Introducing Hunter Gatherer

Hunter Gatherer Cooking was founded by Alex Russon; a passionate cook, outdoorsman, and storyteller with a deep love for the countryside.  Originally beginning as a documented record of culinary outdoor experiences on weekends away in shepherds huts and cottages across the UK, Hunter Gatherer Cooking has grown from a personal, self exploratory journey into a full blown company with digital platforms dedicated to open-fire cooking, field-to-fork food, and in between all of that; a celebration of the landscapes and the people who make it possible.

With a background in both business and creative media, Alex has built Hunter Gatherer Cooking into a recognised voice across YouTube, Instagram, and beyond. His content blends practical knowledge with genuine enthusiasm, taking viewers behind the scenes of traditional farming, deer management, countryside living, and the art of fire cooking. Today, Hunter Gatherer Cooking reaches an audience of hundreds of thousands worldwide, with a mission to inspire others to connect with nature, food, and community in a meaningful way with awareness and committment to sustainable food rearing and production practices.

Alex has always been passionate about sourcing high quality food and finding a sustainably farmed atlantic salmon was high on his list of "must dos". He was expecially interested in learning more about the Aquaculture industry in the UK and the sector behind our seafood in Britain.  That curiosity eventually led him to Wester Ross.  With our reputation for careful, responsible aquaculture and our use and preservation of traditional farming methods and time honoured practices, we were the ideal Scottish Salmon producer for him to reach out to.

Visiting our farms was an eye opener for Alex.  Meeting the teams and seeing the pens, processes and the salmon up close, gave him a true appreciation for the care and expertise that goes into every single Wester Ross salmon.  For Alex, it was incredible to see how sustainability, welfare, and the wisdom and knowledge of generations of farming all comes together, to create an artisan salmon at a farm that truly is unique, and stands out within the industry.

Partnerships are central to Alex’s work. He collaborates with trusted countryside and food brands to tell authentic stories.  Fast forward a few months and now, through his role as our brand ambassador, Alex helps share the Wester Ross values of sustainability, tradition, and respect for provenance, reminding us all of the simple joy of food, produced ethically, cooked well, and enjoyed together.
